At 21:28 hours, the West Islip Fire Department was activated for a Water Rescue with Boat Fire in the area east of the Robert Moses Causeway in the Great South Bay.After a brief search of the area and with assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department Aviation Unit, the vessel was located in the shallow waters of Snakehill Channel. Upon arrival of Fireboat B2, the five victims were being removed from the water by personnel from the United State Coast Guard - Station Fire Island.West Islip Fireboat B-2 extinguished a small fire aboard the vessel and the five victims were transported to the West Islip Marina for evaluation.Assistance was provided by the Bay Shore, West Babylon and Babylon Fire Department who provided additional fireboats, as well as the North Babylon Fire Company and Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance who provided additional EMS resources. At 21:07 hours, the West Islip Fire Department received a request for assistance from the Centerport Fire Department at the scene of a water rescue they were operating at on Mill Pond. Two subject, were stuck in a boat in the middle of the pond which had drained as a result of the changing tide. Due to the thick mud bottom of the pond, the Centerport FD was unable to reach the victims and requested the use of our Hovercraft. The West Islip FD responded with 3 chiefs and the Hovercraft unit and within minutes of arriving on scene were able to launch the Hovercraft and begin the rescue of the two subject. Once back upon on land, the two victims refused medical attention. At at approximately 19:30 hours on March 13th, the West Islip Fire Department was advised by our EMS first responder of heavy smoke in the area of Prospect Avenue and Beach Street. Upon further investigation, a working structure fire was located at 1100 Prospect Ave. An aggressive interior attack was initiated by the volunteers firefighters from West Islip and with assistance from our neighboring departments, were able to quickly knock down the fire and place the incident under control. At approximately 09:25 hours on the morning of Saturday January 25th, the West Islip Fire Department was activated by Suffolk County FireCom for a reported structure fire with occupant within. Within two minutes from time of activation, Assistant Chief Parrett arrived on scene of a two story private family dwelling with heavy smoke showing. At that time, it was confirmed all occupants of the home had self evacuated. Under the command of Assistant Chief Baxter, the vamps from the West Islip Fire Department commenced an aggressive interior attack resulting in the incident being placed under control within 35 minutes.The Bay Shore, North Babylon and Deer Parks fire departments provided assistance at scene of this alarm. At 13:42 hours on 08-13-14, the West Islip Fire Department was activated for a tractor trailer motor vehicle accident on Westbound Sunrise Highway on top of the Udall Road bridge. First due units encountered a jackknifed tractor trailer with one aided.
